Lorna Malanik has dedicated her life to education, beginning her journey in 1994 by teaching piano to students of all ages. In 2006, she earned her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary, specializing in Distributed (Online) Learning.
Her teaching career began in the classroom as a high school English Language Arts teacher with the Calgary Board of Education. She later transitioned to Bow Valley College, where she taught Social Studies. A fourth-generation Calgarian, Lorna made a significant move with her husband and children to rural Vulcan County in 2021. She now serves as the Program Supervisor at the Vulcan Daycare Society.
Becoming an Early Childhood Educator has allowed Lorna to build meaningful relationships with children and families in her community. Through her work, she has partnered with MAXECS to empower young children with the skills and support they need to reach their full potential.
In a further demonstration of her commitment to supporting learners of all ages, Lorna is honored to have recently been appointed as a Trustee for the Palliser School Division.
When she’s not caring for children- her own three, or those at the daycare—you’ll find Lorna tending to her garden or playing the piano, guitar, and drums, often accompanied by her many cats, chickens, and pigs.
